Saunas and pregnancy


For a pregnant woman sitting in a sauna is a great way to relax her stretched out muscles. When you use a sauna for your bath it is important to exercise caution for pain relief. Saunas are responsible for high blood pressure. In case if you are expecting a natural reaction would be is it safe to use sauna? Before proceeding to use sauna you need to educate yourself about the risks posed by it.  Risks during pregnancy are a definite point to consider?

Heat and the extreme temperature is a main issue of sauna while pregnant second trimester. The heat could make you feel good and a lot relaxed for a would-be mother it is not all a safe option. The moment babies are in a state of retro they may not be in a position to regulate body temperature. What it would mean is that they cannot tolerate the extreme heat of a sauna. Studies do showcase the fact that babies who have been exposed to sauna during first trimester have serious complications or even issues with a spinal cord. The chances of miscarriage might also occur. Even some of your existing medical conditions can be complicated. A considerable degree of research is directed on the same topic.

Would you consider use of sauna to be safe during pregnancy?
If a doctor gives a go-ahead to use sauna during pregnancy, then limit your exposure to less than 15 minutes at the most. Doctors generally ask you to avoid saunas at all costs during pregnancy. For example even if you spend limited time with a sauna it can lead to serious complications. The moment you feel nausea of sauna third trimester you should vacate the premises. This could point to viable signs that your body is in an overheating mode
Do keep in mind that all saunas are not rated to be the same. You keep themselves at different temperatures and heating methods are not the same. A combination of all such factors can have an impact on the amount of time to heat a temperature that could be harmful for your baby.


Would you consider use of a hot tub to be safe during pregnancy?
Even sitting in a hot bathtub is something that you can compare it to a sauna. This can go on to raise your body temperature at a considerable level. The main reason being you are covered by hot water. If you are sitting next to the jets hot water would be able to raise the temperature. At this point heated water enters the tub. Doctors have gone on to prescribe a specific temperature for a hot tube during pregnancy.
If a doctor suggests occasional use of a hot tub during pregnancy, some important precautions can be taken. These go on to include

  • You should not stay in the tub for more than 10 minutes
  • The bathtub should not be used daily or on a frequent basis
  • Once you are about to feel nausea you need to get out of the tub.
