Reasons Behind Faulty Pregnancy Test Results

false negative first response

Home pregnancy tests are a very common way to find out whether one is expecting a baby or not. These tests are mostly dipped sticks and they are placed into a urine system to detect the hormone released during early pregnancy.

Most of the reputable home pregnancy tests are highly accurate but they are not always foolproof. The false negative first response can actually happen due to a variety of reasons. Here are some things to keep in mind which can lead to false positiveness in pregnancy tests.

Chemical pregnancy

It is possible to have a positive response in a pregnancy test even if one is not technically pregnant. This can sometimes be caused by chemical pregnancy. This pregnancy occurs if a fertilized egg known as the embryo is unable to grow or implant. Early pregnancy loss does not occur because of anything the woman has done. It may be the result of issues within the uterus like scar tissues, fibroids or a congenital uterine anomaly that can cause irregularly shaped uterus. Chemical pregnancies are thought to be very common, but they mostly go undetected if a pregnancy test is not taken.

Ectopic pregnancy

Sometimes a fertilized egg can implant itself outside the main cavity of the uterus. This can lead to an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies usually happen if a fertilized egg gets stuck in a fallopian tube during its journey to the uterus. This type of ectopic pregnancy is also known as a tubal pregnancy. The major reasons behind this are; scar tissues or inflammation of the fallopian tube, history of past urine infections or misshapen of the fallopian tube. An ectopic pregnancy can never be a normal pregnancy. This is because; the embryo is not viable because there is no place for it grows outside the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies are also medical emergencies. Ectopic pregnancies can be damaging to the woman if it is left untreated. Extreme blood loss or loss of the reproductive organs can also occur due to this. The major symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are:
  •         nausea and sore breasts
  •         sharp waves of pain in the abdomen, pelvis, shoulder
  •          severe pain on one side of the abdomen
  •         pressure on your rectum

Recent miscarriage or abortion

There can be repeated positive results in a pregnancy test if one has faced miscarriage or abortion before. This happens because during pregnancy the hormone level rises as the placenta grows and the rise happens quite rapidly. But when the pregnancy is over then the hormone reduces quite slowly. The hormone can remain in your blood and urine for up to six weeks following the end of the pregnancy. It’s possible to have a false positive test until this hormone level return to normal.

 User error

As it is said earlier that home pregnancy tests are not always accurate. If one does not follow the directions properly then some errors can lead to false pregnancy reports.

So, if one has a question that can a first response pregnancy test be wrong the answer is yes, it can be wrong but it has its reasons.
