Cervical Cancer and its detection technique
Cancer has many types. The types of this particular disease depend on the generation of the malignant cells in the body at particular sites giving rise to anomalous activity in the body. Among the women population, two types of cancers are very much common, they are the breast cancer and cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the only type of cancer that occurs due to the virus called as the HPV or the human papilloma virus. The disease caused by the virus is sexually transmitted. What is a Pap test?
Pap test is also called as the Pap smear test. The test checks the status of the cells present in the vagina and also in the cervix region. The test is mainly based on the visualization technique where the cells of the vagina and the cervical region after collection is tested under a microscope for any type of change. This a metal made or a plastic speculum is attached in the vagina during the sample collection and thus it helps in the opening of the two adjacent walls of the vagina so that the vagina opens up and thus the collection of the cells from the cervix becomes very much easy. A brush or spatula is used for the collection of the cells from the cervix.
The significance of the Pap test
The result of the Pap has two outcomes that are either normal or abnormal.Abnormal Pap test during pregnancy comes with a lot of other bad news as well. However, abnormal pap is not always definitive to have cancer also. However, abnormal Pap can surely tell you about the infection that is building up in the cervix and also in the vagina. It might not cause any serious problem to the fetus. However, during the delivery, a number of effects are seen. The baby can be still during its birth. Along with that, it can also induce pre-term birth. Usually, it has been seen that during the delivery of the child there is excessive blood loss. In many cases it has also induced improper brain development of the fetus. Thus preterm detection will help the doctors to tackle these conditions so that the baby and also the mother during the delivery is safe and sound.
Need for the Pap test
Pap smear test during pregnancy or before pregnancy is very much required to ensure a good growing environment for the baby. However, most of the gynecologists suggest carrying the Pap test as soon as they get to their active reproductive stage in their life. And the test should be done in a regular interval to properly monitor the condition of the cells of the vagina and the cervix.
Presence of side effects
The Pap smear is a much painless and it is devoid of any kind of proper side effect. Although patients might feel some type of discomfort during the collection of the cell samples, which is minor.
