What changes does the body face during pregnancy

A woman’s body undergoes a lot of changes during pregnancy. Let’s take a closer look at the major changes that you undergo through the three trimesters. These changes may sometimes be not so pleasant but the main idea is to facilitate the growth of the baby.

1.      Cardiovascular system:  During this time the heart has to pump more blood which causes an increase in heart rate but drop in blood pressure. The sleep posture plays a huge role in this so a woman should not lie on her back much. Lying sideays is a better idea. The increase amount of blood will be needed by the reproductive organs and also during the birthing. However, the greater amount of clotting agents can often cause vein thrombosis so moving about is a good idea.

2.      Uterus: The uterus increases during this time to make space for the child. The organ itself is normally 50 grams in weight but grows to 1kg. The blood flow to the cervix increases and the color of that part becomes from blue to purple. In case of intercourse there might be some spotting which should be reported to the doctor.

3.      Vagina: Your vaginal PH level increases and there is more of thrush during this time.

4.     Gastrointestinal changes: As the uterus increases in size it displaces the intestines, stomach and other organs which leads to flatulence, indigestion, and constipation. The  uterine pressure on the veins in the lower part of the body also causes haemorrhoids. You also feel heartburn during this time.

5.   Renal system: The bladder and the kidneys constitute the renal system. During this time the blood flow increases as well as the filtration level. In case you find blood in the urine consult a doctor immediately. The kidneys tend to produce more of the rennin hormone which leads to fluid retention in the body.

6.    Endocrine system: The thyroid gland increases during this time but that should not be a problem for you. In case you see a lump in the thyroid then pay a visit to your doctor. Check your breast for any kind of lumps. The prolactine level increases to prepare the breasts for feeding the child. The glucose level increases so you must check regularly for diabetes. As the calcium level falls you may get cramps and even osteoporosis. This tends to lower milk supply so increase the calcium intake.

7.     Along with these hormonal and internal changes you are likely to feel nausea and tender breasts along with cramping in the legs and abdomen. Unless you are facing these symptoms in excess, they tend to even out with time. Try eating smaller meals at a gap of every few hours to feel less uncomfortable. With the second trimester, your bump becomes more visible and you will feel bloated and swollen if you sit or stand for a long time. You will see your pregnant belly button pop out.  It is normal to have the belly button protruding during pregnancy. You can feel the baby moving inside you. The third trimester is the ultimate one and it is normal to feel tensed. Your breath will feel shorter and a pressure near your rib cage. As the baby moves you might feel a little painful. Take a long bath and enjoy.
