The general functions like respiration, digestion are similar with all men as well as women. The underlying difference is the reproductive system between a man and a woman.

A woman is prone to menstrual cycle apart from the changes during  pregnancy and childbirth. Because of this precise reason women are prone to various diseases like the ovaries , cervix etc.  Can abnormal cervical cells during pregnancy emerge; the answer to this question is that it needs to be carried on to check the functions of the body.

It works out to be a simple procedure, where from the female body cervix cells are taken and then studied in the lab. Normally two samples of cervix are collected with the help of a brush. The samples are then evaluated. As per medical experts any woman who is above the age of 21 years should get a Pap smear test done. It could be done if someone is sexually active for 3 years or more. Can a pap smear be abnormal due to pregnancy arise or not, but it is safe on all counts. The main cause of it is HPV which gives way to cervical cancer. Though a woman falling prey to this form of cancer is on the rarer side and this is all the more so with women who have not had a history of sexual intercourse. It is suggested that you be part of this test as suspicious activities could be curtained during the time of the examination.

Any appointments for this test should be scheduled 10 to 15 days after the last day of your period. Till your doctor is not keen to test the flow, it is not suggested that you be part of this test if you happen to be menstruating 12 to 24 hours before the appointment. No form of creams or vaginal douching is suggested at this point of time as well.

You can undertake this Pap test at the time of pregnancy as well. The only point of difference that is witnessed is that an increase in the levels of blood flow is noticed as well. There is another school of thought that a Pap smear test could be undertaken parallel to the main test, so that you can figure out where you stand.

There is no need to be worried if you have an abnormal pap smear.
