Pregnancy
and pesticides have a strong relation and you cannot deny the logic behind it.
You got to view the fact that exposure to pesticides is a cause for adults,
kids and all the more expectant mothers as well. cockroaches, gardens and fleas
are some of the reasons why women go on to spray pesticides around their
premises. The strong opinion would be that you avoid pesticides during pregnancy on all counts. The pesticides are known
to attack the nervous system of the insects and then cause them to die. During
the starting phase of pregnancy the nervous system happens to be developing in
your baby. At this point of time you would want to keep away from pesticides
for sure.
There
was been some studies which highlight the fact that the greatest exposure to pesticides
would be in the first 3 to 8 weeks when the neural tube development is
occurring. In case if you figure out that you live in an agricultural area and
find out that you are pregnant you need to move away from the agricultural
area.
The
best method under the situation would be to avoid pesticides as far as
possible. But sadly 3 out of 4 women are exposed to pesticides at this point of
time as well. Research also points to the fact that kids who are exposed to
indoor pests have a higher chance of leukaemia. This does increase in the first
3 months of pregnancy where you have a professional pest control person in your
home.
The
toxins that are part of plants are compounds. In fact this does pass over on to
the pesticides as well. You cannot confer the fact that organic and natural are
on the same lines. Any chemical even the natural ones have the potential to
cause harm if you do not deal it in a proper manner. Just make it a point that you go through the
instructions before you are planning to handle them. Another school of thought
would be to avoid pesticides during
breastfeeding at the same time.
- There should be no source of panic if you have been exposed to pesticide. You need to be aware of the fact that any risk does happen due to long term exposure. For example if you treat your dogs for fleas and then get exposed to pesticides, then the risk passing on to you would be less for sure.
- The best course of action would be to avoid pesticides in your home or in your garden at the same time as well. It should be all the more during the first trimester of pregnancy when the neural tube or the nervous system of the baby happens to be developing.
