Is it a Sensible Idea to Refuse Vitamin K for a new born baby

Doctors are of the view that an increasing but alarming trend is on the rise. It is that parents refusing vitamin K for new born is on the rise. It does lead to an increase in the chances of internal bleeding in the intestines or brains.

Vitamin K is one of the vitamins that is important for blood clot formation. This vitamin is found in the digestive system of older children along with kids. This is not the case with infants though. Breast milk is not embedded with sufficient supply of vitamin K that could ward off potential infections.  It is not only brain bleeding or gastrointestinal issues, babies who are prone to vitamin K deficiency could have spikes of blood in their urine. Severe anemia or they could be fuzzy with regards to their behaviour as well. In the case of the former it is more of a case of shortage with regards to red blood cells. To keep the mothers along with the babies safe, in countries like US a shot of vitamin K is a must once a baby is born.

The reasons of refusal of New born vitamin K could also emerge from a myth. There was a strong correlation between vitamin K shot and luekemia. This is an age old thought and it has been refuted in recent times. In fact there was a similar situation that arose between autism and MRI scan. The logic is simple, if you are refusing the offer, it is literally play with the life of your kid. A lot has been observed  that there has been an increase in vitamin K deficiencies with new born babies and the main reason of it is that parents have refused the vitamin K vaccine.

Another interesting trend that has been observed is that parents tend to ignore natural birthing experiences. This could be form refusing an epirdural to not following the necessary protocols as far as providing injections to babies are concerned. In fact some parents leave the hosptials without even complying with the vaccine schedule. The best way to have a healthy experience is to pose a lot of questions and undertake a research from your own end from genuine sources as well. If you are refusing to comply with the vaccines be aware of the pitfalls of it. Then a decision needs to be made on the basis of your knowledge, and not what others are following.

Vitamin K does not make its way through the placenta and this deficiency is bound to occur if you plan to supplement this vitamin during pregnancy. As it does not transfer into breast milk, this is all the more common in case of babies who happen to be exclusively breastfed. When it is comes to oral supplementation of this vitamin it has been rejected as the side effects of it are immense. Most health care providers are going to allow you to nurse the baby when you are given a vitamin K shot.
