HCG along
with estrogen is the common hormones, which help to prepare your body for
pregnancy along with child birth. But are you aware of the fact that there are
some other hormones that is important during pregnancy and after it as well.
Oxytocin
It is
basically a hormone of bonding and love. Your social sphere is enhanced coupled
with sexual production, this hormone has a huge say during the course of
pregnancy. This is all the more so in the first few months of delivery. This
hormone is present throughout your pregnancy and goes a long way in establishing
an emotional connects between a baby and a mother.
During the
last stage of pregnancy, once the baby is born the main function of the hormone
is to enable the uterus contracting. This is going to push it out of the
placenta and remove the blood vessels which were being attached to it. It is at
this point of time the uterus does shrink back to its normal size as well. When
higher levels of this hormone are found in the baby and the mothers it does
encourage mutual attachment.
Relaxin
This hormone
does indicate that it is high time that you loosen up. The levels of this
hormone are present well before pregnancy but that is at a lower level. You
need to understand when relaxin peaks during pregnancy. It is high and is bound to reach the peak during the first
semester of pregnancy. At this point of time this hormone does help with
implantation with the formation of the placenta and premature birth is
prevented .In fact it tends to occur due to the contraction of the uterus.
You would
need to consider when relaxin peaks inpregnancy, because the heart and the renal systems are regulated by it. The
body has to come up with the extra amount of load that is generated during the
course of pregnancy. Once you near the end of pregnancy, relaxin is going to
rupture the membranes that are surrounding the fetus. In short it does prepare
the body for delivery whereby the vagina along with the cervix is softened.
Unwanted impact of this hormone is also felt in the softening of the knees,
hips or the legs as well. Inflammation and pain are the likely outcomes.
Prolactin
In short you
can refer it to as the milk production hormone. The levels of this hormone tend
to increase by 10 to 20 times during the stage of pregnancy. In a way it
prepares the breast tissues for lactation. Once the baby is born the levels of
this hormone tends to rise and this is what prepares you for lactation. To
maintain the levels of this hormone and to encourage simulation of breast milk,
obviously you would have to pump or breastfeed. Both of these actions are going
to increase the levels of this hormone whereby the milk glands are forced to
produce more and more milk.
